Celebrating creativity, environmental action and an achievement that crossed borders!

It was a proud and exciting moment at Millennium Global International School  as we celebrated our students’ remarkable achievement in the Direct Climate Cooling Initiative (DCCI) International Awards.

The celebration was made even more special by the visit of Mr. Shadrack Mutembei, Director of Communities EverGreening Africa, who joined us to present the awards. Communities EverGreening Africa works with young people and communities in environmental conservation, regenerative agriculture and green entrepreneurship.

From MGIS to Brussels!

The DCCI is a global initiative that encourages students to use creativity and imagination to take meaningful action on climate change and environmental conservation. The initiative connects schools across different countries and uses creative activities, including art, to give young people a platform to express their ideas about protecting the planet.

At MGIS, 15 students participated in the competition, putting their creativity and environmental awareness into their artwork. Their efforts went on to achieve an incredible result at the international awards event held in Brussels, where MGIS emerged as the overall winner among participating schools from Africa and Europe!

What an achievement!

Celebrating Our Young Climate Champions

To celebrate the students’ hard work, all 15 participants were recognised with certificates of participation.

The top three positions were also recognised with certificates and gift vouchers:

🥉 3rd Place – Oscar Maingi

🥈 2nd Place – Jiya Sehmi

🥇 1st Place – Ayan, Iman, Salma and Valeria

A special recognition also went to Mr. Rafael, who received a gift voucher in appreciation of his support and the great work he did in guiding the students. He also had the honour of receiving the DCCI trophy on behalf of Millennium Global International School.

A Message Beyond the Awards

Mr. Shadrack encouraged our students to continue participating in projects that challenge them to think creatively, develop solutions and make a difference in their communities.

He also reminded the students that caring for the environment is not something that should only happen through special projects. It is a responsibility that begins with the everyday choices we make and the way we care for the world around us.

The celebration was therefore about much more than certificates, gift vouchers and a trophy. It was about giving young people a voice, celebrating their creativity and reminding them that their ideas can contribute to a better future. A special note of gratitude goes out to Ms Fleur Rossdale for gifting the school her books (The Woodland Sprite Series) about caring for the environment and for encouraging our participation in the DCCI Session of 2026. We are humbled to be associated with such a force of nature ;)

At MGIS, we are incredibly proud of our 15 participants and this outstanding international achievement. Their success is a wonderful reminder that when students are given the opportunity to create, explore and take action, their ideas can go far beyond the classroom — even all the way to Brussels!
